Oaken Wood, Surrey

Oaken Wood, Surrey

Species to look out for

A mixture of mature trees, coppice, scrub and grassland on clay soil, this reserve is a small haven in a large Forest Enterprise-managed woodland complex, which is mostly replanted with conifers

The reserve is a part of the large Chiddingfold Forest. The entrance (with sign) is off a track into the forest from Plaistow Road, almost opposite Burntwood Kennels.

From Chiddingfold on the A283 Godalming-Petworth road, fidn the minor road between Dunsfold and Plaistow.

Grid Reference: SU 993 339 O.S. Map: 186 Size: 8.8 hectares (22 acres)

Car parking is unfortunately very limited - roadside at the entrance track to the forest - which must not be blocked or access for large forestry machinery impeded.

Accessible on foot from Botany Bay.

Site Access and safety

Pathways are clear and generally level where they follow the main rides, but can be difficult after rain. The entrance is across a small ditch with a narrow bridge (is being renewed).
