Join this work party and help the Sussex Branch clear scrub at the site of one of our greatest conservation successes. Over a number of years we have worked with the Murray Downland Trust and created an ideal environment for the Duke of Burgundy butterfly, whose numbers have multiplied manyfold as a result.
A major project this winter will be to cut back scrub on the steep north slope of the Downs at Heyshott, which has grown tremendously over the summer.
- Work starts on site at 9am and continues until around lunchtime
- You are welcome to come along for as much or as little of this time as suits you
- Work is with hand tools only, which will be provided, but we recommend you wear stout boots, work gloves and safety glasses
Work party dates may be changed at short notice, particularly if the weather is wet, so if you are travelling any distance, before setting off, please check with Nigel Symington on 07808 936900.
There is limited parking; park at the south end of Heyshott village at Grid ref: SU900177 (nearest postcode GU29 0DP), then walk for about a mile up the slope to the work site.
For those who would like assistance with their equipment, please meet at Upper Cranmore (the fourth gravel drive on the right after the Unicorn pub just after the cart shed on the verge) at 8.45am so that they can be taken up with the quad bike.
