The Bristol & District Moth Group has been running since 1991 and aims to encourage and facilitate the study of the moth fauna in the area formerly known as Avon, which is covered by the Bristol Regional Environmental Records Centre (BRERC).

There is no joining fee and members can attend the annual indoor winter meeting (usually held in Bristol Museum & Art Gallery), any of the organised field meetings in the year and receive an occasional newsletter.  In return, members are asked to submit any moth records from the area which are then held on the BRERC database and used by planners, conservationists and others.  (There is an exchange arrangement for overlap of records with Somerset Moth Group and Somerset Records Centre SERC and similarly with Gloucestershire and all records are submitted to the national recording scheme manged through BC.)

Moths of the Bristol Region was published in 2008 by BRERC and lists the results of the Group’s surveys to that date as well as much historic and generic information about the moths of the region.  It is available from BRERC http://www.brerc.org.uk/services/publications.htm (£20.00 plus £2.50 P&P) or from Bristol Museum & Art Gallery or M Shed museum shops.

Please contact Ray Barnett: ray.barnett@bristol.gov.uk (Bristol Museum & Art Gallery) if you would like to join the group.
