Alners Gorse Butterfly Reserve

Alners Gorse, in North Dorset, is one of four Butterfly Reserves in Dorset. Lots of hard work has been going into managing the site, and the butterflies have responded very well: one description of the site in August was that it was "buzzing with butterflies and other insects". Three species of Hairstreak have been seen: Purple, Brown and White-letter, plus White Admirals, Silver-washed Fritillaries, Marbled Whites, Skippers.... we could go on. Proof positive that active butterfly conservation can save butterflies.
