Abbey Farm Report
A dull wet start brightened by lunch time to enable us to see 13 species of butterfly on our afternoon walk. Meadow Brown and Ringlet predominated while for many, a Gatekeeper was the first sighting of the year.
Added enjoyment this year was the tractor and trailer ride to the start of our walk, leaving plenty of time to meander back down among the flowers.
The moth traps opened earlier in the day were packed with moths and gave additional interest to visitors to this lovely chalk grassland site. We were especially pleased to see Marbled Clover, Royal Mantle, Dark Umber and Clouded Magpie while Small Elephant Hawkmoths obligingly sat on visitors' fingers for close inspection.
