Butterfly Conservation is working with National Schools Partnership to encourage a new generation of butterfly conservationists through the Butterfly Effect, a fun, educational programme to get primary schools and families involved in the Big Butterfly Count 2012.
The official count is from July 14th - August 5th, but because kids make expert-spotters, schools and families can start submitting their counts from the beginning of July, right through until the end of August. A spot-acular opportunity!
Schools and families also have access to the interactive Butterfly Effect website, where you can create your own virtual butterfly and download a Butterfly Count sheet to be a part of the Big Butterfly Count 2012. Once you've done your count, click the 'Submit your count' button to record your sightings.
Remember you can download extra copies to get grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles counting along with you!
Teachers can also find cross-curricular lesson plans and activity sheets on the website to bring learning about butterflies to life in the classroom.
Get involved and start your summer with a fantastic activity to help protect the UK butterfly population!
