Cander Moss is a Scottish Wildlife Trust nature reserve just south of Larkhall in South Lanarkshire. Our work is aimed at re-wetting the bog, so that the specialist flora & fauna can thrive.
The Bog Squad team will use hand tools such as saws and loppers to remove small birch trees and saplings across the open bog, as these plants otherwise would sap the water from the bog. As part of the day we will also conduct a walk over survey of the bog to see if we can find the nationally important Large Heath butterfly, alongside other butterflies and day-flying moths. The work suits all abilities, but you need a steady footing as we will be working on and walking across challenging, uneven and boggy terrain.
Start: 9am meet at our Stirling Office (we offer some transport) or 10am at Cander Moss (we'll give you directions and information)
Finish: 15.00 at Cander Moss or 16.00 at our Stirling Office.
Bring: Water, lunch, wellies or sturdy waterproof walking boots and work clothes. Be prepared for hot weather (sun cream and sun hat) and cold conditions (warm hat, fleece)...and a sense of humour!
