Easter Drumclair Bog is a Forestry Commission Scotland site, near Falkirk. Our work is aimed at re-wetting the bog, so that specialist flora & fauna can thrive.
The Bog Squad will conduct a systematic peat depth survey across the bog using a peat probe, which will give vital information about the amount of carbon that is stored in this bog. We will also remove small conifer trees from across the open bog, as these would otherwise sap water from the bog. For this work we will use lopper and bow saws. The work suits all abilities, but you need a steady footing as we will be working on and walking across challenging, uneven and boggy terrain.
Start: 9am meet at our Stirling Office (we can offer some transport) or 10.30am at Braehead Moss (we'll give you directions and information)
Finish: 15.00 at Braehead Moss or about 16.30 at our Stirling Office.
Bring: Water, lunch, wellies or sturdy waterproof walking boots and work clothes. Be prepared for hot weather (sun cream and sun hat) and cold conditions (warm hat, fleece)...and a sense of humour!
