Butterfly Conservation relies on the support of thousands of volunteers. Without them, we could not do our work. There is a wide range of opportunities for people who would like to get involved, whatever your age or experience!
Branch Activities
There are 32 branches of Butterfly Conservation across the UK, each one managed by a committee of volunteers. As well as leading butterfly walks, moth events and countless conservation days, members get involved with publicity, membership recruitment and fundraising. Work Parties
Most work parties involve physical activity, whether it's bashing scrub, planting trees or re-build stones walls. They often take place on our nature reserves and are essential tasks to restore or maintain butterfly and moth habitats. Everyone works at their own speed and baked potatoes cook perfectly on a bonfire of unwanted brash and bracken! To find out about work parties in your area visit your local branch's page.
Monitoring And Recording
Thousands of volunteers help us keep track of butterfly and moth populations in the UK. You can help with our survey work by simply letting us know if you spot a Humming-bird Hawk-moth or you may be able to commit to walking a short fixed route once a week. Training is available to help you uncover and report on the amazing creatures living near your home. For more information visit the recording page.
Office Based Support
We have four regional offices from where we coordinate our out posted staff and volunteers. Scientists and ecologists work alongside the finance, fundraising, membership and publicity teams. Our office based volunteers help support with tasks such as database input, making up reports, cataloguing of materials, preparing mailings, and photocopying.
