Saving Dartmoor's Crown Jewels
One of the most endangered butterflies in Britain is the subject of a new film shot in Devon. Saving Dartmoor’s Crown Jewels tells the story of the High Brown Fritillary and the struggle going on to prevent it from dying out.
The High Brown Fritillary has undergone one of the most sudden and widespread declines of all British butterflies. Once commonplace in England and Wales, today Dartmoor is one of the few remaining strongholds for this species. Conservation efforts are aiming to reverse its fortune and prevent further losses or even extinction.
Andrew Cooper, One of Britain’s foremost wildlife film makers has brought the natural world into the homes of millions of people worldwide.
He was enlisted to help spread the word about the important role of volunteers and farmers in protecting the butterflies on Dartmoor.
Featuring Devon branch volunteers, staff and landowners, the film showcases work being done to preserve the vital moorland habitat. Stunning footage of High Browns by Butterfly Conservation photographer, David Land, provides a beautiful backdrop for the important conservation message.
