David Dennis - Vice Chairman
Professional background in personnel management. Has worked closely with Manor Yard team, on a variety of issues. Spends “many hours in the field with my camera”.
David Hanson - Honorary Treasurer
Former investment manager at Prudential. Expertise in finance and administration. “Love of butterflies came via childhood friend whose father was keen Lepidopterist.”
Dr Jim Asher - Chairman of Conservation Committee
Background in technology and intellectual property sectors, including business experience at board-level. Joined BC in 1982. Chaired group responsible for the Millennium Atlas. Special interest in recording and photographing butterflies and their landscapes.
Peter Bradbury
Professional background in finance. Chief Financial Officer of the Arthritis Research Campaign. Enjoyed deep interest in butterflies since childhood.
Hugo Brooke
“Interest in butterflies, moths and birds since childhood.” In teens worked for Sir Peter Scott. Ex army officer who ran own media training business for 25 years.
Martyn Davies
Biology teacher with degree in Zoology and Marine Biology. Interested ecology of butterflies. Keen to expand Butterfly Conservation’s work with young people.
Prof John Dover
Interest in butterflies began as a child and has worked as researcher, environmental consultant and lecturer for over 30 years. Currently a Reader in Applied Sciences at Staffordshire University. Serves on the West Midlands Branch Committee and the National Conservation Committee.
Mandy Gluth
Has own business in Norfolk providing accounting/ administrative support for rural businesses. Manages Butterfly Conservation’s Swallowtail reserve at Catfield Fen.
Jenny Mallett
Lived and worked on mixed farm all her life. Closely involved in restoration of chalk down-land at Butterfly Conservation’s reserve at Magdalen Hill Down, Winchester.
Dr Ian Small
An active member of Butterfly Conservation for over 20 years and Vice-Chairman of Butterfly Conservation for eight years from 1991. As Vice-Chairman was responsible for acquisition of major nature reserves, notably Catfield Fen and Upper Hill Farm and produced the Society’s very first business plan.
Dr Simon Spencer
Has lived on an organic smallholding in Wales for more than 30 years and has worked as an entomologist and computer programmer. Interested in butterflies since childhood.
Marjory Taylor
Farming background. For past 12 years, an advisor with the government’s Agri-environment and Rural Economy Schemes. Has special interest in BC’s nature reserves.
Neil Thompson
Former director of computer systems consultancy. Has provided BC with IT help re the collection and organisation of various data. “Passionate interest in Lepidoptera.”
Dr Mark Young
“Interested in butterflies and moths for 45 years.” In 1997 published The Natural History of Moths. Lives Aberdeenshire. Has led many moth-nights in Scotland.
