Distribution Maps for Lancashire's butterflies
These maps give you an idea of the distribution of each species. Any blank areas on the maps, particularly for the more common species, do not necessarily mean that the butterfly is not there, but perhaps that no one has reported it! If you are in one of these areas and see a butterfly, please let us know!
For each species there is a distribution map showing where it has been recorded in the period 2012-2016. Where appropriate there may be additional maps showing the gains and losses of distribution for that species compared to the previous 5 year period.
You should be aware that some of the losses and gains seen may be due to changes in recording coverage – for example, new recorders in Eastern Greater Manchester have put a lot of new dots on the map, whilst other areas may be less well covered now than in the past.
