Nearest station St Albans City (Thameslink from London St Pancras Intl.) approx. 2.45 miles. Access from the south. Head north from St Albans along the B651 towards Wheathampstead.  Pass through the village of Sandridge and turn left at the brown road sign for Heartwood Forest (TL172110) Follow a new private road for 500 meters arriving at the new Woodland Trust car park, the start point for our walk at TL168107. There are two bus services which stop at Sandridge, one from Hitchin to Potters Bar (via St Albans) and one from Hemel Hempstead to Hatfield via Harpenden. Please note the carpark may not be shown on some maps.

Information

Leader is Andrew Steele. A leisurely walk through newly planted areas of forest to see a vivid display of summer butterflies including seeing the areas where Kidney Vetch have recently been planted for the Small Blue butterfly. Target species include skippers, Marbled White, blues and browns. Handy tips will be provided to help you learn how to identify individual species.
