Highlands And Islands: Arisaig Butterflies And Moths

Highlands And Islands: Arisaig Butterflies And Moths
Sunday 30th July 2017, 10.30am-4.00pm
Arisaig, Land, Sea & Islands Centre

Join the Highlands and Islands Branch at the Sea and Islands Centre ( Arisaig), where we will gather for tea, coffee and home-bakes before checking the contents of moth traps set locally the night before.

This will be followed by a field visit to a suitable location nearby (possibly Morar beach) to look for Grayling and other butterflies and day-flying moths.

Meeting place: Land Sea and Islands Centre, Arisaig.  The Centre is located in the middle of the village at NM660863 and signposted from the main road.

Approx. duration: About five hours, but you are welcome to come along just to see the moths in the morning (11 till 12ish) or just for the field trip in the afternoon (from about 1ish).  However, please let us know if you plan just to come to the field visit so we can arrange exactly where/when to meet you.

What’s needed: Please bring a packed lunch if staying all day.  Tea, coffee and home-bakes will be provided on arrival.

Any other information: Oh and don’t forget your swimming costume and a towel!

This event is taking place during Big Butterfly Count, the largest insect citizen science project in the world. Why not download an ID chart and take part in a 15-minute count during the event, which runs from 14 July - 6 August? The results help us see how butterflies are faring across the UK.
