Sunday 1st October – Scrub Clearance at Braehead Moss (South Lanarkshire)
We will be removing small birch trees that are growing on the bog as these trees would otherwise grow larger whilst sapping vital water resources from the bog. For this work we will be using some small hand tools such as loppers and saws.
On the day we shall also be holding a launch event at for the new boardwalk facility at Braehead Moss that we have constructed as part of our Lanarkshire's Large Heaths and Mosses project.
Braehead Moss SSSI is lowland raised bog located close the village of Forth in South Lanarkshire. The moss is home to a colony of the Large Heath butterfly. Our work will improve the habitat so that this and other peatland species can continue to flourish on this beautiful bog.
Transport to the site may be available from our Stirling Office (and occasionally pick-ups can be arranged for places en-route) - please get in touch to arrange this. Please book in advance for this work party.
Start: 12pm at Braehead Moss (We'll provide directions and information)
Please bring: Water, lunch, wellies or sturdy waterproof walking boots and work clothes - including waterproofs. Be prepared for cold conditions and bring warm hat, fleece etc. All tools and gloves are provided for volunteers.
