Join us on a trip to Bernwood Forest: once part of the  Royal Hunting forest of Bernwood. This extensive Forestry England woodland contains areas of broadleaved woodland, many wide rides, ponds and glades. It supports a rich assemblage of butterflies, plus lots of other wildlife.

We will explore the rides, searching for some of the nearly 40 butterfly species recorded in what is rightly regarded as on of the best butterfly woods in the country. Target species: Purple Hairstreak, Silver-washed Fritillary, White Admiral and, if we are lucky, the magnificent Purple Emperor.

The leader will remain on site to enjoy the views and his packed lunch. If you would like to join them and make this a bit more of a social occasion: please bring along your own packed lunch, a drink and perhaps a rug to sit on. We can chat about all things butterfly, day-flying moth, the work of UTB and how you might help out.

Accessibility - mainly wide, surfaced tracks but we may wander off onto muddier paths as well.

Meet at the Oakley Wood car park.
