Sunday 22nd April 2018, 10.30am-1.30pm
Potts Corner Car park, Heysham, SD413571
This is the annual survey of the only viable Belted Beauty colony remaining in England.
The meeting starts at 10.30am, Sunday 22nd April 2018, gathering beforehand in the Potts Corner Car Park (SD413571) just north of the saltmarsh where the moth can be found. The meeting will go ahead regardless of the weather and is expected to last for a couple of hours at the most.
Pre-booking is not required – just turn up! If you happen to be late just head south from the car park – you’ll see us on the marsh.
Be prepared for cold, wet and windy conditions!
Waterproof walking boots or wellies are strongly recommended.
In the past a charge for parking has been levied but is unlikely to exceed £1. This has not happened in the last five years so may no longer apply.
The count has been arranged to avoid the highest tides but the area is still very muddy with some deep, water-filled channels. Those attending are asked to take care when moving around on the marsh.
There is no guarantee that moths will be found but it would be surprising if that were the case. We usually find a few and on occasions have counted several hundred.
