Once again it has been agreed that we run the branch AGM and Member's afternoon by Zoom due to uncertainty surrounding Covid19. (Please ignore the map on the right, we have to have it so it's just set to the centre of Stroud!)

The meeting will start at 2.00 pm with reports from the officers, followed by election of officers.  There will then be a short break. After this will be the announcement of the photographic competition – see below. At some point there will also be the opportunity to see many of the photographs sent in by yourselves which will, again, be set to music.

After the break, at about 3.30 pm, our main speaker will be Zoe Randle, Senior Surveys Officer, from Butterfly Conservation.  Many of you will remember Zoe for all her work on the Moth Atlas which took up a tremendous amount of time but she is also involved in much more.  She will be talking about all the recording schemes for Butterfly Conservation which will hopefully inspire others to take up recording in the county.  Zoe has built up a wealth of information during her time with Butterfly Conservation and I'm sure she will be able to explain to us in more detail about the reasons why we do recording in the first place and what happens to our records.

Joining details regarding the AGM and Members' Day have been sent out with the email accompanying Antennae to all those for whom we hold email addresses. If you do not currently receive emails from us, but would like to be sent this and other information electronically, please send me your details. (Sue Smith, The meeting should end by 5.00 pm.

Photo Competition

Last year we had some stunning images from all around Gloucestershire and judging by the feedback the audio visual presentation seemed to be quite popular.

This year we have added a "Habitats" category as well as the usual "My Garden Butterflies or Moths", "UK Butterflies", "UK Moths" and "My Butterfly Garden". Of course your habitat photos might be also your own butterfly garden so it's your choice as to which category you would like to enter them in.

Please send up to three in each category as JPEG attachments to emails to reach Chris Tracey by 15th October. Chris will set them to music and then send them to our speaker for judging before the meeting. The winners will be announced after we have viewed all the entries during the meeting.

Please send all your entries by email to Chris Tracey:

Competition rules:

  1. All entrants must be a member of Gloucestershire Branch of Butterfly Conservation.
  2. All images must be the entrant’s own work and they own the copyright for them.
  3. None of the images submitted have been published elsewhere or have won a prize in any other photographic competition.
  4. Butterfly Conservation Gloucestershire Branch can reproduce, enlarge, publish or exhibit, on any media, any of the images entered into the 2021 photography competition, for any purpose connected with Butterfly Conservation.
