Butterfly Conservation - Devon Branch Open Day 2024

(Open to members and non-members)

Saturday 19th October 2024 at the Boniface Centre, Crediton Parish Church, 10am - 4pm

This year we have a very interesting, varied programme and we hope you will join us to enjoy meeting and hearing from our speakers.

We are delighted that printmaker Sarah Gillespie will be joining us to talk about her art work and why moths inspire her. There will be an opportunity for the audience to ask her questions and some of her work will be on display. Sarah is an eloquent champion of the environment and is an eminent printmaker. Sarah works on a centuries old engraving technique called Mezzoprint which is a form of engraving on a copper plate, it is a slow process which requires many hours of work but her resulting prints are well recognised and collected all over the world and hung in the Royal Adadamy.

Phil Dean will be giving a presentation about the Devon Moth Group’s website and will give a demonstration of it’s use.

Dr Max Anderson, Butterfly Conservation’s South West Landscape officer will be giving two illustrated talks on the subjects of:

1: Marvellous moths! Nocturnal pollination of Bramble

2: Monitoring our most elusive butterflies using UV light

The Parish Church is on the A377 main road which from Exeter is on the right not long after passing the turning for the road to Tiverton (A3072) and before the shops. From north Devon on A377, shortly after passing all the town centre shops, the entrance to Parish Church is on the left. Boniface Centre is on the right as you go down the Parish Church drive - keep on to rear of church for parking.
