Join us and help create vital new habitat for butterflies, moths and a number of other threatened species in this area.

All tools and training provided, along with tea and biscuits!  

Please wear sturdy footwear and clothing you don’t mind getting dirty and bring a packed lunch with you.

The day will run from 10am until 3.30pm, but you can stay for as little or as long as you like.

Castor Hanglands is an oasis of green in an intensively farmed landscape and the main habitats are woodland, limestone grassland and scrub.

Butterflies: Silver-washed Fritillary, Purple Hairstreak and White Admiral. The rare Black Hairstreak butterfly is best seen around the Blackthorn scrub in June.

Rare plants: Crested Cow-wheat, Lesser Water-plantain, Man Orchid and Narrow-leaved Water Dropwort.

Summer migrant birds: Nightingale, Garden Warbler, Grasshopper Warbler and Turtle Dove. In the woodland, all three British Woodpeckers occur, along with Woodcock and the elusive Hawfinch.
