Conservation Work Party to benefit

Small Blue & Dingy Skipper

Logie Quarry

(between Tain & Alness)

Saturday 20th November

10am – c4pm

Details

We will be removing birch and broom from an old quarry to encourage the establishment of Kidney Vetch and Bird's-foot Trefoil, the foodplants for Small Blue and Dingy Skipper respectively.

Directions

We will meet at the old entrance to the disused Logie quarry at NH77397613. If travelling north up the A9 from Alness/Invergordon, turn left off the A9 about one mile north of Kildary. The quarry entrance is about one-third of a mile along the minor road.  If travelling south from Tain, turn right off the A9 one and a quarter miles after the turn-off to Arabella and Nigg.

What’s needed

It is advisable to wear old clothes and suitable footwear.  If staying all day please bring lunch and a hot drink although you are welcome to join in and leave whenever you want. Every little helps so if you only want to come for an hour you will still be very welcome.  Hand-tools, including the wonderful Tree-poppers, as well as loppers, bowsaws, and gloves will be available, but please bring your own if you have them.
