Sun 13th January: Little Breach near Culmstock 10.30 - 2.30 pm.

Main work will be raking after the strimmer but there may also be trimming of woody vegetation. Rakes, loppers and small saws will be useful tools to bring but 3 branch hay rakes will be available on the day.

Meet at the end of the lane leading to Purchas Farm [ST 108 154]. Leave the M5 at junction 27 and take the A38 towards Wellington. After about 3 miles, just passing over the M5, turn right onto the B3391 signposted Culmstock & Hemyock. After 1.1 miles turn left signed to Woodgate/Beacon. Continue for 0.7 miles going straight across 2 sets of crossroads and passing a “no through road” sign, and park where you can at the end of the lane. From here it is about 1/2 mile to the reserve [ST 115 155] with a steep uphill section initially.

Most of our winter work days are targeted at helping specific butterfly species but always benefit many other wildlife species that prefer more warmth and light that our clearing work provides. It is usually ok to just turn up on the day but if adverse weather threatens cancellation or for any other queries a contact number is provided. Participants can attend for just part of the day if they wish but should always tell the contact person if they leave early. Bring lunch, a drink, waterproof clothing, stout footwear or boots and gardening gloves. Most people bring their own cutting tools but often some tools will be available to use.
