Butterfly Conservation are teaming up with Devon Wildlife Trust to cut back scrub on Newbridge Hill to increase habitat for five Fritillary species; High Brown, Dark Green, Pearl-bordered, Small Pearl-bordered, and Silver-washed Fritillary.
We will be using hand tools to sensitively cut back the encroaching gorse, brambles, and saplings which will open up new ground and encourage the Fritillary's foodplant, Common Dog Violet, to grow.
We will be meeting at 10.30am in the Newbridge car park, where we will need to car share or walk up to site. We plan on having a bonfire so please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty, and sturdy boots as the site is based on a slope. Tools, gloves, and refreshments will be provided. Please bring your own lunch and plenty to drink.
This event is led by the All the Moor Butterflies project. We would appreciate it if you could let us know you are planning on coming so we can ensure we bring enough tools/refreshments. Please contact Megan on the details provided.
In the case of severe weather we may need to cancel. If in any doubt please contact Megan before travelling.
