The slopes at West Down are becoming increasingly scrubbed over with gorse and saplings, threatening to out compete the violets and bracken that many fritillary species rely upon. Butterfly Conservation are teaming up with Plymouth Environmental Action group to help maintain breeding habitat for five fritillary species here including High Brown and Pearl-bordered.
We will be meeting at 10.30am in the main car parking area on the common, at the very end of Brook Lane. From here we will need to walk approx. 750m to the work site. Please note the area where we will be working is very steep in places.
We will be using hand tools such as loppers and bowsaws, and having a bonfire. All tools, gloves, and guidance will be provided. Please bring warm and waterproof clothes with you and wear sturdy, comfortable boots.
For more information or to book please contact Simon on the details provided.
This event is part of the National Lottery Heritage Funded All the Moor Butterflies project.
