This area of the north-facing slopes east of Batcombe has a very rich butterfly fauna. Duke of Burgundy, Grizzled and Dingy Skippers and other chalk-loving species have been recorded here. The slopes are on private land and we have been granted special permission to visit. We will be meeting in the Dorset Council car park for a 2.00 pm start - or park in the car park beside the barns at Hilfield Friary and walk up to meet us for 2.00 pm. The terrain for this walk is challenging - steep and possibly slippery. Please wear appropriate footwear.
