During the construction of the road an imaginative plan was devised to create new herb-rich downland on the slopes alongside it. Informal monitoring of butterflies started in 2012 and a formal transect was set up in 2018. Last year 25 species were seen and there were good numbers of Small Blue, Adonis, Dingy Skipper and Small Tortoiseshell. The overall total for the site has now reached 30 with an appearance of a Chalkhill Blue in 2019 for the first time.

It would help us if you could book with the walk/talk/work party leader in advance. This does not commit you to turning up, but it means that if we have to cancel the event, we can contact you to tell you this. We may use your email address to contact you immediately after the event, but it will not be held for any future purpose
