The Annual General Meeting and Members Day will take place on Saturday 12th October 2019, at the Ibis hotel, Birmingham.

We have two first class speakers to entertain and inform us after the formal business of the AGM is over.
First Martin Wiemers will give a talk entitled “European butterflies in the molecular age – new insights into aspects of colonisation and speciation in the Canary Islands and Madeira”.

We are all aware that DNA barcoding has changed how we view the concept of species. Martin will combine atalk on barcoding in European butterflies with an illustrated talk on the butterflies of Canary Islands and Madeira. Martin is a leading authority on using molecular methods in ecology. He has worked in Papua New Guinea, the Philippines and Indonesia as well as in Europe. Martin is a board member of Butterfly Conservation Europe – and a very good speaker !

Our second speaker is Roger Gibbons whose talk is entitled “ Species you are unlikely to see in France - unless you know where to look.” Roger will be well-known to many members as he is on the Committee of European Butterflies Group and an acknowledged expert on French butterflies, living in France for a good part of the year.
