Ickenham Meadows near Ruislip Gardens
- Ian Watts
The Brown Hairstreak has been missing from the Cambridgeshire & Essex Branch area for generations but its return is hopefully not too many years away. In recent years the distribution of this butterfly has been expanding and the species seems to be gradually making its way around London. The Stafford Road Open Space (Ickenham Meadows) area in West London is an interesting blackthorn rich environment that is now an established Brown Hairstreak site. Being conveniently located by the London Underground (Central Line) it is accessible to many of our Branch members.
Please meet at the junction of Stafford Road and Bedford Road (where there is a track leading to some allotments) at 8.45am. This is a short 5-10 minute walk from Ruislip Gardens underground station (Central Line). There is also a limited amount of on-street parking close to the meeting point.
