Meeting place: Meet at the entrance to Cullachie, a private house on the minor road between RSPB’s Loch Garten Nature Centre and Tulloch. Grid ref: NH 980 169  What3words: tinted.reward.dictation

Description: Strathspey is arguably the most important area for aspen woodland in the UK. There is a wealth of aspen-associated wildlife, from invertebrates such as dark bordered beauty moth and aspen hoverfly, to rare lichens and mosses.

There is a plan to link together the aspen stands in the strath, through a combination of encouraging and protecting regeneration, and new planting. Aspen regenerates well by suckering, but deer browsing can prohibit its development. The objective of this work party is to make up and install wire mesh protection guards around young aspens.

Approx duration: A few hours may be sufficient but it is advisable to bring a packed lunch in case it runs on into the afternoon.

What’s needed: Places are limited so please let Pete know in advance if you plan to attend. Bring lunch and wear old clothes. If you have them, bring work gloves.
