Over recent years there has been an increase in the number of newly-sown wildflower meadows, especially in urban areas. There are a number of approaches to this, and no one method works in all situations.

This event will introduce you to the principles of meadow creation, including ground preparation, seed selection and ongoing maintenance. We will share lessons learned through the Helping Hands for Butterflies Project and from RSPB's meadow planting in the Glasgow area.

We'll spend the morning indoors at the meeting room at the Argyll Hotel (973 Sauchiehall St), with presentations from Butterfly Conservation and RSPB staff, before going out for the afternoon to see some of the meadows created by RSPB nearby. RSPB will give us a tour of the new meadows and reflect on the successes and challenges of these.

This event will be of particular use to anyone who is working or volunteering in the conservation sector and who wants to find out more about how to approach meadows. Even if you just want to make a meadow in you're garden, you're also still very welcome to attend!
