Moth Night is the annual celebration of moth recording throughout Britain and Ireland and Moth Night 2022 takes place between 19th and 21st May, with this year’s theme being woodlands. May is a particularly diverse month for moth populations in woodland with some stunning species on the wing and the shifting seasons evident with the mixing of stragglers from the early spring and fresh examples of the early summer species. Daytime recording is also encouraged as there are some enigmatic day-flying species on the wing, including the bee hawk-moths, Speckled Yellow and Argent & Sable in woodland.

Over the past five years we have run Moth Night events at Hartpury Orchard Centre where there is a good mix of habitats (orchards, grassland, wetlands). This year we are likely to run more than one event in some of the county’s best woodland and forests. Venues are still to be confirmed, but if you would like to attend one of these check the Gloucestershire Moths Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1429198450736569) page for updates. Alternatively email Steve French at @email and he will inform you when arrangements have been finalised.

(We have to have a map for every event in this list. In the absence of anything definite yet Stroud Subscription Rooms is the centre of the universe!)
