Pine-tree Lappet moth survey – Kiltarlity area
Date: Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd July.
Time: 7pm till late on both nights (to be confirmed)
Meeting place: Kiltarlity Village Hall (to be confirmed)
Description: Further light trapping to ascertain the status and distribution of the Pine-tree Lappet moth in the Kiltarlity area in partnership with Forest Research.
Over the last three years, light trapping has focussed on the native pinewoods in Glen Strathfarrar. However, this year we will be returning to the pre-Strathfarrar days and trapping sites around Kiltarlity. We plan to trap in seven locations, three within the core breeding area and four outside, but where male adults have previously been found.
What’s needed: Please bring your own moth traps and generator(s) if you have them. However, it would be very useful to know in advance what kit you can bring to help us allocate people and equipment to sites beforehand.
Any other information: Depending on the number of people, traps and generators, we will split into groups to trap as many of the seven sites as possible over the two nights.
Most surveyors stay up for most or all of the night tending their traps checking them first thing in the morning.
If you cannot attend but would like to look for this moth at another time during its flight period (latter half of June to mid- July), please also get in touch with Katy or Tom who will help arrange sites and access permissions.
Directions: Kiltarlity Village Hall is in the centre of the village just off the main street (Grid reference NH508417) .
