Priority Sand Dune Moths
Free Online Virtual Zoom Workshop
Thursday 5th August
10-10.45am
and repeated
Saturday 7th August
10-10.45am
Background
Sand dunes are a unique habitat, home to an array of specialised moths, this includes a number of “darts”; Archer’s, Coast, White-lined and Sand Dart, as well as other rare, localised and scarce species including Portland Moth, Lyme Grass, and in Scotland, Lunar Yellow Underwing.
Specialised sand dune micros include Caryocolum blandelloides and Scythris empetrella.
Lunar Yellow Underwing, Portland Moth and Sand Dart as well as the two micro-moths are High Priority species in Butterfly Conservation Scotland’s Conservation Strategy. It is therefore important we raise their profile and determine their current status by encouraging targeted surveys.
Aim
The aim of the online workshop is to provide information on the identification, distribution and ecology of sand dune lepidoptera, particularly focussing on the more rare and threatened species. It is hoped that attendees will be sufficiently enthused to undertake targeted surveys to help us more accurately determine their distribution and current status.
Booking
The workshops are free and anyone can attend, however, booking is essential as details on how to access the Online Zoom Virtual Workshop will only be sent to those that register an interest. This link will be sent out in the day(s) before each event. Full instructions on how to join the meeting will also be provided for those new to Zoom.
The online workshop will be held at 10am on Thursday morning and repeated on at 10am Saturday morning. It is advisable to join the zoom room around ten to fifteen minutes before the start of the workshop in case of any last-minute technical difficulties.
