The Red Moss of Balerno is a Scottish Wildlife Trust Reserve and the only lowland raised bog in Edinburgh - join us for this special event to celebrate International Bog Day!

This is also a great opportunity to take part in the Big Butterfly Count.

In the morning (from 10am) we'll be opening a moth trap which will be hopefully full of moths caught the previous night. Later we'll also have some guided walks along the boardwalk to see what plants and animals we can find. Special plants like Sundew and Butterwort are likely to be seen, and we also expect there will be dragonflies, damselflies, and hopefully and few butterflies!

This event is open to all, including children. There is no need to book a space, but we will be there between 10am and 1pm. The trap opening will be happening at 10, so don't miss out!

Date and time: Sunday 28th July, 10am -1pm

Location: Red Moss of Balerno. Take the A70 west from Edinburgh over the city bypass. Continue through Juniper Green and Currie until the traffic lights. Turn left into Balerno then take another left just after the school. Continue straight on this road which heads south out of Balerno, going past the SSPCA centre on the left to the Pentlands Regional Park car park (also on your left), which is located east of Red Moss. From the car park, walk south on the road until the reserve entrance, located about 100m further on to your right. A circular boardwalk will take you around the reserve. There will be signs to show you where to go.

Booking: there is no need to book a space, but if you need any more information contact Anthony on @email

This event is being run by Butterfly Conservation staff and volunteers, and we are grateful to Scottish Wildlife Trust for allowing us to use the Reserve.
