Saturday 9th March – Scrub clearance at Kirkconnell Flow (near Dumfries)
The Bog Squad will be removing invasive scrub at Kirkconnell Flow near Dumfries in order to protect it's valuable peatland habitat. If left to grow invasive scrub will take water away from the moss which threatens the specialised flora and fauna that lives there.
The Flow is one of the largest lowland bogs in southern Scotland surrounded by a beautiful pine forest and is home many rare invertebrates such as the increasingly scarce Large Heath and Green Hairstreak butterflies.
The work suits all abilities, but you need a steady footing as we will be working on and walking across challenging, uneven and boggy terrain.
Start: 10am at Kirkconnell Flow (We'll give you directions)
Finish: 3pm at Kirkconnell Flow
Bring: Water, lunch (hot drink?), wellies or sturdy waterproof walking boots and work clothes - including waterproofs. Be prepared for cold conditions and bring warm hat, fleece etc..and a sense of humour!
