The Bog Squad will be clearing birch scrub at Langlands Moss near East Kilbride in order to protect the valuable peatland habitat. If left, invasive scrub will take vital water resources away from the bog. This threatens the specialised flora and fauna that live here. Langlands is home to colonies of Large Heath and Green Hairstreak butterflies, both of which have declined across the UK as a result of habitat loss.

We will remove the scrub with handsaws and mini mattocks. The work suits all abilities, but you need a steady footing as we will be working on and walking across challenging, uneven and boggy terrain.

Start: 10am at Langlands Moss
Finish: 3pm at Langlands Moss

Bring: Lunch and any drinks you need for the day, wellies or sturdy waterproof walking boots and work clothes - including waterproofs. Be prepared for cold conditions and bring warm hat, fleece etc..and a sense of humour!
