Prees Heath Commmon Reserve, just south of Whitchurch

Join us at the last sanctuary for the Silver-studded Blue butterfly in the Midlands to help us maintain the habitat for this special butterfly and the other wildlife found on Prees Heath.

This reserve is on a large Common that had been a Second World War airfield and a major restoration project has been underway to re-instate the heathland and grassland vegetation across much of the site.

Today we will be clearing ragwort, bracken and birch.

Meet on the access track opposite the Steel Heath turning off the A49 Grid Ref SJ557363.

Nearest post code: SY13 3LA.

Other wildlife that enjoys the reserve include foxes, rabbits, polecats, stoats and weasels Common Lizards and a variety of heathland birds use the site too, including hobbies and skylarks.

For more information about the meeting point, directions and the event, please contact Stephen Lewis on 07900 886809 or at phwarden@sky.com

This event is taking place during the Big Butterfly Count, so why not download an ID chart and do a 15-minute count of the butterflies you can see?
