BC Cumbria Work Parties spring 2022

updated 20 August 2021
Regardless of the relaxation of Covid restrictions and changes to self-isolation requirements from 16 August 2021, we intend to take precautions to protect our volunteers and each other.  To this end, we would ask our volunteers to bring a mask and personal sanitiser.  Wearing masks should not be necessary during outdoor conservation work but it may still be useful to have your own mask and sanitiser with you just to cover all possible situations.  We want you to feel comfortable at this work party.  In addition, we are limiting the number of places at each work party.  Booking is essential, email Chris Winnick at

The Government press release said (text selected and relevant to the outdoors)-

“From 16 August, those who have received the first and second vaccinations and those under 18 and a half who are identified as close contacts by NHS Test and Trace will be advised to take a PCR test as soon as possible to check if they have the virus and for variants of concern.

Those above who are identified as close contacts are still at risk of being infected.  These people are advised to consider other precautions such as wearing a face covering in enclosed spaces, and limit contact with other people, especially with anyone who is clinically extremely vulnerable. They will not be required to self-isolate while they wait for the results of the PCR test.

Anyone who tests positive following the PCR test will still be legally required to self-isolate, irrespective of their vaccination status or age in order to break onward chains of transmission. Meanwhile anyone who develops Covid-19 symptoms should self-isolate and get a PCR test, and remain in isolation until the result comes back.”

Should you develop the symptoms of Covid 19 or you have been told to be in quarantine or to self-isolate by the Track and Trace System within 10 days after the work party, contact the work party leader or ring Chris Winnick 01539 728254 or  @email

Tools not used for 3 days will be deemed to be free to use.  Either wear gloves that you already have or wear and keep a pair of gloves to be given out at the start of the work party.

Please check this site the day before the event for changes and updates.

The Omicron variant, now widespread, is reported to much more transmissible.  Please pay particular attention to wearing a mask and maintaining a proper distance, for example 2 metres, from other volunteers
