An introduction to Butterfly Conservation

Our vision is to create a world where butterflies and moths thrive and can be enjoyed by everyone, forever. 

Through our groundbreaking research, dedicated conservation work on the ground, and extensive engagement programmes, we are tackling butterfly and moth declines across the UK and saving species from extinction. 

The press office is here to help you to deliver your story, event, filming or other media project relating to Butterfly Conservation or the species we support. We can put you in touch with our world-leading experts, provide advice, or connect you with our local Branches.

Emma Butler

Emma heads up the Butterfly Conservation PR & Communications team, focusing on our communications strategy, campaign messages, and working with colleagues across the sector to ensure we’re up to speed on all the butterfly and moth news!

If she was forced to choose just one, Emma’s favourite butterfly is an Orange-tip, and favourite moth is the magnificent Elephant Hawk-moth.

Rhiannon Selby

Rhiannon manages the Butterfly Conservation press office including all National media activity and celebrity engagement. If you’re a national journalist looking to feature Butterfly Conservation, or a talent representative looking to collaborate, please contact Rhiannon.

Although hard to pick, Rhiannon’s favourite butterfly is the beautiful Peacock, and top moth is the striking Jersey Tiger.

Pete Hughes

Pete looks after press and publicity for Butterfly Conservation in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and regional activities in England. If you’d like to explore a local, regional or country specific story, or would like to work with one of our Branches on a media story, please contact Pete.

Pete’s favourite butterfly is the Grizzled Skipper and his top moth is the Beautiful Carpet.

Sophie Hall

Sophie manages content across Butterfly Conservation such as blogs, emails and campaigns, including our supporter’s e-newsletter, All Aflutter. Sophie also supports the team with media activity. Sophie is the first port of call for image requests (for press only), podcast interviews and anything content related. 

While Sophie believes picking a favourite species is an impossible question, if forced she would pick the Green Hairstreak butterfly and Humming-bird Hawk-moth.
